Beautifully Human – Wellness

Walking the Healing Journey Together

Glenn Marais’ Beautifully Human is a passion and commitment to healing that Glenn has travelled his whole life through his work in Southern Africa during the HIV/AIDS crisis, 20 years of work in the Far North with Indigenous Communities, and recently during COVID, learning how to teach meditation/mindfulness and becoming a Reiki Practitioner. Glenn has developed a unique and effective approach to mental wellness incorporating meditation and mindfulness with Reiki to treat anxiety, PTSD and CPTSD. His client testimonials say it all, with each one expressing the impact Glenn has had on their lives. He has expanded his work to include healing drum circles that blend the magic of Djembe drumming with contemplative practice. Glenn treats clients in his home and can travel as well. Contact Glenn for a consultation and sign up for  a drum circle. They are amazing!

Male First Responder:
I am a retired First Responder with a 37 year career in policing.  I was aware that I suffered from
PTSD and tried different types of therapy that were not successful. I tried to live with the
depression and anxiety. After retiring it became worse and prevented me from leaving my house
or engaging in any social functions. My therapist referred me to Glenn Marais, of Beautifully
Human.
Glenn has been a lifesaver. Literally. Glenn worked with me trying different types of therapy until
things began to crack. He was very patient and spends a lot of his own time researching. Glenn
educated me about my condition and the neuroscience going on in my brain when I am
triggered. I have learned about Complex PTSD which I have suffered since childhood. In
addition, It has been an unforgettable spiritual healing, with drum therapy, release therapy, Reiki
and sometimes simple nurturing which I lacked in my childhood.
I have been receiving counselling and healing practices from Glenn for almost a year now.
Sometimes I regressed but Glenn persisted through all that. I no longer recognize my old self as
I write this review. Glenn’s patience and guidance through this trauma has given me hope and
the ability to enjoy life. I am forever grateful for his help.

Male – 46 – First Responder
“I was introduced to Glenn Marais, while recovering from a very dark time in my life. I was
struggling with many things, including loving myself. At our first meeting Glenn’s compassion
immediately made me comfortable sharing some of my innermost secrets and fears. His first
challenge to me was breathing, hand to heart, and reciting words of self-compassion.
Something so simple, yet so hard, and I was flooded with emotion. Through our sessions Glenn
has guided me through meditation, rituals, and techniques which have assisted in releasing
years of pent-up emotions. His recommended readings and “homework” cause me to think
deeply about myself, my life, and my future.
There is such disconnectedness in our modern, technology-obsessed world. Glenn brings you
back to a more natural place, where things intrinsically feel correct. I look forward to our
sessions, and the thoughts, feelings, and relief they bring out.”

Male Masters Student 25:
For a background, I began a Master’s program after a five year undergrad while I also played
football. For me school and education were a smaller part of my identity than sports. I began to
experience extreme anxiety and PTSD after suffering from a panic attack in one of my presentations in
class. I was burdened and completely succumbed to depression and anxiety, and I knew I needed help
immediately or I was going to set myself on a path that would produce a lot of pain and failure.
I then began sessions with a local therapist, but was introduced into this world of healing from
Glenn Marais and soon after I learnt meditation, reflection, and knowing how to start and end my days
with self-love and openness to healing. I was also provided reading that helped me tremendously,
particularly John Kabat-Zin, “Wherever you go, there you are”, and “Philosophy for Life and Other
Dangerous Situations.” I was healing slowly and really fulfilling my inner peace and love, and it was
benefiting myself and those around me. I still struggled with extreme anxiety in many facets, but I had the tools and abilities at my disposal to prepare and conquer those situations no matter how difficult they were. I also was able to receive Reiki treatments from Glenn which provided an incredibly healing feeling.
The images that came from me provided perspective and guidance, while I also felt the physical warmth and sensations of the energy impacting my body and spirit. I had waves of feeling thankful and releasing spiritual tension. I was able to let go and accept. I was able to see colours and images so vividly as if they were right in front of me. Most of all, I felt connected to a larger energy force, or meaning – I just felt that feelings, spirituality, the world and the planet, all are connected and have a bigger medium than what our western culture tells us.
I was able to start a low dose medication to help with healing some of the chemical offsets I am
experience in my body, due to years of stress, concussions, and substance abuse. However, it is the
traditional healing process that allowed me to grow my spiritual and mental capabilities. It has not been one straight path as there has been lots of moments dwelling in pain as things have come to the surface, and more stressors have entered and continue to be apart of my life. However, I feel that this process has given me the toolbox and education to handle life’s situations.
I feel very blessed and now on a path of forever learning and healing, I am currently experiencing minimal anxiety compared to a year ago. I am learning how to slow things down in my mind, learning how to relax, learning how to self-love and forgive, learning how to accept, and learning how to live my life in a balance between my mental, physical, and spiritual well-being. Without this process and journey I have been on, I truly think I would not be at the point I am today without it.
I feel incredibly thankful and blessed. I only wish that I can share with others who may be suffering from a similar situation to mine, so they can begin their healing journey.
